THE EXIT ROW 🌺✈️
Escaping the status quo—in style.
The Exit Row is a reminder to stay one decision away from a sky full of possibilities. If you're done sitting in the middle seat of your life and ready to plot your escape from the status quo—it starts here!
This week on Instagram I teased that I've applied for a second citizenship. I mentioned in the comments I'd share the full story here.
Let's get into it:
A few years ago I had my eye on getting Italian citizenship.
I'd seen all the viral stories on buying a house for $1, and the digital nomad visa opportunities there, and thought, "My grandma is Italian. I should just get my citizenship through her!"
Then I did what everyone does... procrastinated.
And Italy changed its laws overnight.
Brutal. No Italian citizenship for me.
Realization hit like a wet sock:
Politics shift. Governments change. Laws change. What's true (or available) now may not always be.
So when I remembered that I still had a path to my Jamaican citizenship, I knew it was time to lock in.
And your comments told me I'm not the only one sitting on this!
Y'all are pursuing Ecuador, Spain, Italy, Nigeria, Ghana, and more.
My country, my journey, and how you can start yours too
And why you should.
If you're 2nd-gen and getting your citizenship has been sitting in your Notes app as a "someday" project, this is your sign to start today.
That's my job! Professional ass-fire-lighter!
If second citizenship is on your to-do list—comment your thoughts on the blog post. Or reply to this email. I want to know how big this second-citizenship wave actually is.
P.S. If you're not eligible (or interested) in citizenship-by-descent, there are so many gatekept options that could give you... options regarding freedom of movement. Some West African countries are offering African-Americans and other diaspora members citizenship by descent, for example. And I mean, I literally wrote the book on digital nomad visas.
So let me know if you want me to dig into more of them in my content.
